What is a scrap prize?
A scrap premium is the word we use in everyday speech when we talk about the tax-free scrap allowance. It is a legal requirement in Denmark that you hand in your car to an environmentally approved car wrecker when it is to be scrapped. On the other hand, you are then entitled to a scrap premium, which the Danish Environmental Protection Agency has set at DKK 2,200.
The Skrotpræmie scheme has been created to make it attractive to have your scrap car picked up by an approved car wrecker. You must also be aware that it is illegal to hand over your car to a car wrecker who does not have the Environmental Protection Agency’s approval.
The scrap prize depends on the car
There are several factors at play when it comes to calculating the final scrap premium. When it comes to cars that need to be scrapped, auto hackers look at, among other things:
- The car’s age
- The car’s condition
- Model
To get the set rate from the Danish Environmental Protection Agency, it is required that there are 4 wheels on the car and that it can roll. Burnt-out cars or cars that have been damaged to an extent that makes it more difficult to transport them; you will therefore not be able to expect to be paid the full rate.
